There must be some way I can get past the mental block. This really helped me when I started skating again (couple months ago). Just practice walking that way, no skates. How often do we walk in circles? Walking sideways is good too. I don't think it's all mental, it just ain't natural, till you make it so.
Yea, but it's a dry heat... except, July, August and most of September. AKA Ken.

RE: Request Basic Skate Tutorials Here!!
Remember to bend your knees when crossing over. When you see someone obviously suffereing while learning to do crossovers you will notice one thing they ALWAYS do wrong, they try to keep their legs straight.
Someone who has skated for a long time will bend his\her knees about 15-20 degrees without even thinking about it. |

RE: Request Basic Skate Tutorials Here!!
Probably true. I'm bad about being all stiff-legged. It is very tiring to have your knees bent the whole time.

RE: Request Basic Skate Tutorials Here!!
Terriffic, Res! Thank you soooooo much! I just ran circles in the office.
I need to start practicing, now. It all makes sense, now. I wasn't shifting my weight as I stepped, so I was off balance. I will let you know how I do when I get to the rink next. I will probably get over to Extreme during the week. We'll see. SouthernSkater.com rules! |

RE: Request Basic Skate Tutorials Here!!
Stopping. I have seen videos about t stops and others, but they eitehr don't explain it good, or I am really thick. I could use a stopping video along the lines of res's crossover one. BTW the crossover vid is beast!

RE: Request Basic Skate Tutorials Here!!
I'll take this one, I will include a few examples of T-stops, tight hockey stops and of course, for those of us with toe stops, using them frontwards and backwards.
I'll do it tomorrow(Tuesday) evening. Bill |
