If Gene Kelly could skate like this in metal wheeled skates, why is it so difficult to learn that stuff in modern skates? This blows my mind every time I watch it.

Another reason why I think dancers are natural skaters. This is why I've been trying to recruit some of my dancer friends to the Derby team I skate with.

Skating was pretty popular back then. I imagine coaches were more abundant as well. Much of the skill I used to see as a kid is just not around anymore. Most of the "new" moves are just old moves that had been forgotten.

ummm... I saw it and did a little research, eventually I found out how he did it. He does it with one of the most famous tricks of all time... the skater isn't Gene Kelly, it's a stand in.

But it's still cool to see that there really isn't anything new under the sun.

Ditto. I was so impressed for ages and never thought about the possibility of a stunt double. Bummer. But... I mean, some of the times he was there in the movie as himself, right? I mean, he had to be filmed on skates for some of it, right?

Who was the stunt double? Do we know?
