Had a cool thing happen yesterday afternoon. I was perusing through the list of people who have clicked the "Like" button on the Facebook page for The Crossroads Derby Girls, the Roller Derby league I'm affiliated with as a ref (and administrator of their Facebook page.) I came across a very special name on that list, one Jerry Seltzer, the father of modern Roller Derby and son of Leo Seltzer, the creator of the sport.

Not wanting to toot my own horn or that of the team, but I just thought it was really cool to discover that a fledgling team is being followed by the father of the sport. I'm just really excited about it and had to share.
You know, most people don't pay that much attention. Razz
All kidding aside, that is really cool. Did you send him a friend request?
No, I need to.

Usually I wouldn't pay that much attention to the list, but there's a few people in the community we don't want to be associated with AT ALL. Until here recently when Facebook added the ability to ban someone permanently from becoming a fan of the page I'd have to go in periodically and remove these people. Now that I've got the option I still check the list from time to time out of habit.
I didn't think that an undesirable person liking a page would hurt anything. A friend, yeah, but a fan?
Under most circumstances it wouldn't be that much of an issue, but these are former team members who were removed from the team for........legal reasons. Other people in the community know they're former members so we're trying to distance ourselves from them as much as possible. We've removed their pictures from the page, obviously since they're not part of the team anymore, and removed them from the fan list to sever all ties with them.
Just read wiki, he lives in my area. Razz
You should send him a friend request. What's the worst he could do, ignore you?

I have friended skaters like Richard Humphrey, Tony Zane, Brandon Perea, Diamond Walker, and of course JamSkateAddiction. JSA and I are internet buddies now, though we have never actually met in person.

Knowing these people has made my life a little richer.

Friending people that inspire you is a good way to get to know them better and even converse with them on occasion. With social networking being what it is today, we are blessed with the ability to build relationships with high caliber people that we used to only be able to read about.
By the way Res, I did like you suggested and sent Mr. Seltzer a friend request, and he accepted it, which was also very cool.
