Hi Everyone,

Hope it was a great Thanksgiving for all.

I'm heading to the rink tomorrow and am on the verge of buying new wheels to replace my Caymans.

The Caymans are pretty wide and I'm thinking of switching to skinnier wheels (like the size of rental skate wheels.) The skinny wheels were what I learned on as a little kid and I use skinny wheels outdoors.

Any advice on the real difference on indoor rinks?

Thanks!
Karen
Nothing at all wrong with the slim wheels. I have been noticing a trend lately that is moving back that way.
One obvious advantage is a reduced risk of hitting wheels together.
As far as traction is concerned, the difference is debatable.

Update us on your skating style, typical skate floor type, and your weight, and you might get some good suggestions. Not from me, I'm not the wheel expert. Razz
a wider wheel is better when it comes to speed.... your push is moved to the floor better with the extended lip... if your just a session skater i see nothing wrong with a skinny wheel... just remember when it comes to wheels it always better to spend a little more and get a great wheel then cheap out and not notice much of a diffrence.... the caymans are pretty much plastic not urethane.... if you stay in a low price range you will get the plastic type again
I have wondered about this also. I have never really been sold on the wide wheels, but that is all that seems to come on the skates that the rink sells. They have some narrow wheels for sale separately, and they said they will trade plus the cost difference.
I figured that the narrow wheels would be cheaper, but the prices are all over the charts. I'm still not ready to buy my own, but when I do I will be sure to weigh my choices here. You guys seem to know your stuff.
im pretty knowledgeable lol.... i spend hours researching things... Reserector Begged me to be on his forum cause im just so cool and knowledgeable Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin... lol....

other thing is do you want a skinny wheel with a hub(new derby wheels) or a art like wheel... derby wheels are pretty much a speed wheel with no lip... a art wheels NORMALLY has no noticeable hub at which makes the wheel look like one piece of urethane.... unless your an art skater id suggest a derby like wheel because they are normally lighter in weight

When you decide to make a wheel purchase (or skate purchase), please be sure to get a quote from the vendors in our southerskater.com Skate Market. Some offer discounts by way of coupon codes exclusively for SS menbers.
I personally love the Juke Slims, it helps with agility and speed and less wheel locking!

Then you haven't tried the correct slim wheel yet!
