RE: How To Jamskate: Grapevine
I did it! Yes yes yess, I actually did it!
For the longest time, I was not able to maintain my balance with my toes pointed inward, which prevented me from doing this, and from doing a decent toe jam. I worked on that weakness until I finally did two successive direction swap cycles before losing momentum. I just committed to it, held my head up and pulled off the trick. Now it is down to practice, practice, practice. JamSkateAddiction..... thank you for your videos. |

If we ever get to skate together, we should grapevine back to back and take a vid. Might look neat. (I might accidentally trip us both.) |

RE: How To Jamskate: Grapevine
I am in a rut. I can get through 1 1/2 or 2 cycles, but I am not consistent. I want to get to where I can do this indefinitely.
At this point, I plat to break it down into its elements again, like the video shows. I may be lacking something in one part of it that is killing my momentum. I was practicing this and some other moves in the middle of the rink the other week. Every time I went to the middle, three young boys came out to join me and practice their jamskating. After a few minutes, I usually skate off and do some laps. They would dissipate when I did that. I would go back to the middle and back they would come. I guess they needed that "group" feeling or something. It tickled me once I realized what was going on. It must be the old Tony magic. |

Make sure you rotate your hips, your ankles and bend your knees. Makes it a little easier.

RE: How To Jamskate: Grapevine
I had trouble with that at first, then realized that I was twisting my upper body. That was keeping me from swinging back and forth because there was too much momentum to stop. It is really all from the waist down. Watch her video again and you will see it, although you can't really see her upper body.

RE: How To Jamskate: Grapevine
I saw a boy doing that at Oak Grove last time I went. I was proud that I knew what it was called. Thanks to this site, I now know the names of the tricks that I can't do.
