Using lace tighteners

Are any of you familiar with these for tightening laces? Do they work? Do they kill laces?

I've seen them used for ice and artistic skates. They help you get them tight where they need a little extra.
However, I have never actually used one. I would love to hear from someone who has.

I think a device like that would be handy for spot snugging without having to loosen what you already have tightened. Can't say I have used one, but am intrigued (as often as I untie/relace to get the feel right during the course of a session).

We used to use them for hockey skates...It was an easy way for us younger girls (13 or so) to get our skates nice and tight, since they were a PAIN to get tight :P

I think I am just going to pick up one of these. Was hoping someone had a recommendation. I COULD possibly make one of the wire ones myself. Maybe I will try that first.

A lot of the girls on the Derby team that I ref for have the regular laces, but some use waxed ones and use them for not only tightening but undoing them as they stick to everything with the wax

Hmm. Those look interesting. I have such a hard time getting my boots tight in the right spots, so that might help a lot.
