JB Style Roller Skating. Blurr the Boundaries
I have yet to accurately describe JB style. For that matter, I have yet to find a way to describe MY style. I am beginning to think that JB best describes the style of skating that I do.

The best way I can put it is "blurring the boundaries" between roller dance, shuffle, jam, artistic, and anything else you have seen done on quad skates.

I'm told that JB stands for James Brown. If that is indeed the origin of the description of the style, then JB has to be flagrant and oh so FUNKY! You have to let the music move you in a natural and fearless way. You must move as if you have no peers.

I challenge you now to post videos that you feel are decriptive of the JB style. Here are a few that I have come across.

There are all wearing old style boots with the tongues flapping. Is that part of the JJB style? Like it's not really JB unless your boots are loose? Or is that just a coincidence?
I also don't see white folks doing it. At least not in those videos.

From what I have seen on videos, the boot style seems to be a favorite around Chicago, and most likely in other areas. Probably more regional than ethnic.

As for not seeing white folks in the videos skating JB style, all I can say is that I am as white as they come and I skate that way. I'd be willing to be that as we hunt video we will find some white folks JB-ing. Thumbsupup

I've got a little jb in my style. Very little, but it is there. I love a good RnB jam. I think if more people around me were roller dancing I wouldn't feel so awkward when I try it. At a club like the ones in those videos, I would feel awkward NOT getting down.

Check out the guy at the 2:00 mark.

That's a good trick. I don't think I've ever seen that done. All of the guys and girls in these videos are really good. I'm guessing these are special sessions?

I see some of that around here. It depends on when you go, and who is there.

It looks like jam skating more than anything. I see why this is called blurring the boundaries.
